Slovenia appoints first female army chief

29.11.2018 / Slovenia appointed Major General Alenka Ermenc as chief of the army, making her the first woman Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian army and the only woman in charge of a NATO country’s military.

Ermenc has served in the army since 1991, when Slovenia won independence from Yugoslavia. She graduated from the Royal College of Defence Studies and completed a Master’s degree in International Studies at King’s College University, both in London.
